Well, we will start off this week’s column with theater happenings around the area.

The library in partnership with Ms. Sandra Dean at the Plattsmouth Elementary School is offering a youth theater program.  They meet at the elementary school as part of the after school programming.  Please contact Ms. Dean at 296-4173 if you would like to register your child for this fun activity.

The Plattsmouth Community Center is kicking off its teen dance series this Saturday night from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. This is for ages 10-15. There is a DJ and other activities available. The cost is $5.00 and pre registration is required before noon on Saturday.  Please call 296-5800 for more information or if you have questions. This is a brand new event and I think it is wonderful that they are offering these events for the kids.  These will be offered the first Saturday night of each month.

The Plattsmouth Public Library is looking for volunteers to assist with ongoing projects, keeping the shelves in order, or storytime readers.  The time commitment is not much-even as little as an hour a week would be beneficial to the library.  Please call Kirsten at 296-4154 with questions or to sign up to help.

It’s tax season,  the Plattsmouth Public Library has tax forms available for pick up. Please be aware, we cannot give any tax advice but we can help you print any forms you might need for .10 a page.

The Shelterbelt Theater in Omaha production of “From Shelterbelt With Love 8” is going through Saturday, February 14, 2008.  The theater is located at 3225 California St in Omaha.  Showtimes are Thursday-Saturday at 8:00 p.m., Sundays at 6:00 p.m.  This show features John Payton, the talented actor who portrayed Sam Spade, during our Big Read Events last fall.  I am going this Friday night and can’t wait-the show has gotten really good reviews.  For more information and to see pictures from the show, visit their website at http://www.shelterbelt.org

Mahoney State Park is currently offering “Perfect Wedding” at the Kounze Memorial Theater through Sunday, February 15th.   This play features several Plattsmouth residents and the tickets are only $6.00 for adults.  They also offer dinner theater packages to include the buffet at Peter Kiewit Lodge before the performance.  http://www.melodrama.net/story2.htm is the website address to check out the information on this fun way to spend an evening or Sunday afternoon!
