Welcome to Paula in Louisville as the new editor-make sure to check out their page!

Lots to talk about this week; some very cool events all over Cass County in the next few weeks.

I wanted to mention Main Street Association in Plattsmouth. Charles Jones has a new newspaper column in the Journal on Thursdays.  Make sure to read it; the group has some innovative plans for the near future. It is going to to be fun to see them all come to fruition.  He has given me permission to use any items necessary in the future, so keep an eye out for updates.

Thank you to Diana Puls for the following information:

MEET THE FUTURE with Nebraska 4-H Month during February. Ever wonder what the future will look like?  Just take a look at your local 4-H today.  It's where young people explore, learn and discover in a safe environment.  In 4-H, kids find their true passions, gain confidence and give back to the community. Did you know that you can become a 4-Her at any time during the year?  4-H membership is open to all youth ages 5-18.  Why not consider joining 4-H today! Celebrate 4-H's efforts in helping today's kids become tomorrow's leaders. 4-H volunteers keep busy helping youth Meet the Future with Cass County 4-H throughout the year.  Without volunteers to present and help with 4-H events, activities, workshops and clubs, the 4-H program could not exist.  Volunteers bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program and have a huge impact on youth.  Diane Mayfield, Cass County Extension Associate, works with volunteers to plan and implement hands-on learning.  Please won't you consider sharing your time and talents to help enhance our youth?  Short and/or long term volunteerism is available!  Contact UNL Extension in Cass County for more information at 402-267-2205 or http://us.mc517.mail.yahoo.com/mc/compose?to=This email address is being protected from spambots. Deanna and Daniel Hill, members of the Weeping Water Whiz Kidz 4-H Club, helped Bloom Where You're Planted pumpkin patch attendees discover, learn and have a BLAST exploring alternative fuels through a Biofuel Blast science experiment for 4-H National Youth Science Day last fall on two separate occasions at the Avoca site.  Assisting with the science experiment were Renee Thakur, 4-H volunteer, and Jonathan Anderson, Conestoga FFA Advisor, along with fellow 4-H members and Conestoga FFA members.

If you have never been to the coffeehouse, it is a great evening with lots of sing alongs and great special guest appearances!  It is one of my favorite events of the year.

Debby Greenblatt of Greenblatt and Seay is going to be busy the next few weeks. Here is the first event on the schedule-I will add them to the column as they come up.

The Old Avoca (Nebraska) Schoolhouse will be hosting a Twin Fiddling Workshop on Saturday, February 13, for fiddlers (or violinists or violists) who want to learn to play nicely together with their fellow-fiddlers (or violinists or violists).  Fiddlers (or violinists or violists) of any age and experience level are encouraged to enroll.  Championship fiddler and fiddle book author, Deborah Greenblatt will share some tunes, hints about arranging for two fiddles, playing back-up, etc.  The Workshop takes place in the historic Old Avoca Schoolhouse, in Avoca, Nebraska.  Pre-registration is required, and enrollment is limited.  The fee is $20.00 per fiddler.  For more information, call 402-275-3221, or send an e-mail to http://us.mc517.mail.yahoo.com/mc/compose?to=This email address is being protected from spambots. I love the Lofte's new event for celebrating Valentine's Day:

Manley, NE [January 21, 2010]-  Let's face it, sometimes we need a little help in the romance department.  Well, the Lofte Community Theatre in Manley has taken steps to create an enjoyable evening for singles, sweethearts and even old married folks!

On Saturday, February 13th, the Lofte is holding a special Sweetheart Event to celebrate Valentine's Day.  The doors will open at 6:30pm.  Wine tastings will be provided by Slattery Vintage Estates of Nehawka.  You can purchase a tasting, a glass, or buy a bottle of your favorite to share with friends!  A variety of delicious hors d'oeuvres will be on-hand and later, the instrumental group, "Skylark" will take the stage.  New this year, Krambeck Photography will be present for professional photo opportunities.  Wine, appetizers, dancing, photo opps; the only ingredients missing are you and your date!

Tickets to this event are $20 per person.  Due to liquor license requirements, wine tastings will be priced separately at the door.  Advanced reservations are not required, but are strongly suggested.  For more information or to purchase tickets, please call the Lofte Box Office at (402) 234-2553.  You may also visit their website www.Lofte.com.

Finally, prepare to celebrate Groundhog Day in a truly festive fashion!

Have a great week everyone and I will see you around town....
