Jan Young sent this along this week:

The Low Cost Vaccination Clinic held at the Plattsmouth Animal Shelter this past Saturday (4/10/10) was a huge success and so much more than we hoped for. It was a beautiful day and people came in droves - the city lot looked like a big parking lot and folks were waiting in line to pull in past the gate. Everyone (pets and their humans) was on their best behavior and overall things ran smoothly. Of course there was a lot of the required barking but everyone got along.

Here are some of the astounding figures:

138 animals were vaccinated

39 Plattsmouth City animal licenses were sold

10 animals were micro chipped

Many signed the spay/neuter sign up sheet  - they will be notified when times and dates are set up for their surgeries.

Another clinic will be planned for August or September and hopefully offered twice a year in the future. Details will be available as the time approaches.

The following need to be thanked for making this a success -

-Caring For All Pets - for providing their services for the day

-Sue Baker (Plattsmouth Animal Control Officer) for organizing

-Happy Paws volunteers for helping with the event and also donating things for the grab-bags and raffle.

-All the people who took time out of their Saturday to come

-All the businesses who were willing to let us leave fliers advertising

-The editors of all the Nebraska Online Community Newsletters

-The Cassgram

-The Journal

Please continue to support the Plattsmouth Animal Shelter and the good work of Happy Paws - Plattsmouth Animal Advocacy Group. We gratefully accept any donations.

Visit http://www.plattsmouthanimalshelter.com/ and see what's new at the shelter - then click on the Happy Paws tab to see what we're up to.

Be sure to visit the shelter during shelter hours - the animals love new faces and the attention!

CT Thongklin (Channel 3 Weatherman) is bringing his violin and some friends to the Plattsmouth Public Library on Sunday, April 17th at 2:00 p.m.  CT performed at Terry Little's coffeehouse and was spectacular.   So bring your friends and enjoy an afternoon of magical music.  The event is free but there will be a goodwill offering for library building and technology enhancement.  Any questions, please call 296-4154.

Their famous Turkey Salad is on the menu for the Church of the Holy Spirit's annual lunch on Thursday, April 15th starting at 11:00 a.m. Sounds good to me; of course anytime I don't have to pack a lunch is good with me.

Curtis Wolbert forwarded this information:

"The Otoe County Genealogical Society will host it's 2nd annual 'Walk Through Wyuka' tour at the Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City on May 13th at 7:00 pm.  Wyuka Cemetery historian, Don Hegr, will be our tour guide and will guide us through the many historical internments in Nebraska's oldest public cemetery.  Don's tour will cover the history of the cemetery, and will also showcase numerous graves of Nebraska City's prominent (and sometimes not so prominent) people that are buried within the cemetery.  If you would like to join us on this tour, please meet at the maintenance shed inside the cemetery at 7:00 pm.  There will be someone at the main entrance of the cemetery to guide you once you arrive, and parking will be on the south side of the maintenance shed."   Cemeteries are fascinating places and this sounds really interesting,  Thanks for sending this along.

Kindergarten Round Up is Thursday, April 15th.  So no school for the kindergartners that day!

CASS COUNTY MUSEUM'S next brown bag programs are April 27th and  May 11th.   The program is free and open to the public.  Coffee and cookies will be served by the Historical Society.  For additional information, call the museum, 296-4770.

THE UNITED METHODIST WOMEN'S Rummage Sale is 9am to 5:30pm Thursday (4/15) and Friday (4/16), and 9am to noon on Saturday (4/17). Fantastic bargains on a big variety. It's at the First United Methodist Church, 7th & Main, Plattsmouth.

Jay and Sheila Speck are celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary at the VFW on Saturday, April 17th beginning at 8:00 p.m.  Benne, Nash, and Casey invite to stop in and congratulate them!

I found this notice on the school website and thought I would pass it along:

PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given that the governing body of the Plattsmouth School District #1, Cass County, Nebraska, will hold a special meeting of the Board of Education for the purpose of reviewing and discussing real estate on the 14th day of April, 2010, at 5pm.  The meeting will be held at Plattsmouth Schools Administration Center, 1912 Hwy. 34, Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

That is all I have for this week-have a good week, enjoy the weather and I will see you around town!  Kirsten
