Don't Forget to VOTE on November 2ND!

 

--Check your voter registration and polling place. People can check the status of their voter registration and location of their polling place by contacting their county election office or accessing https://www.votercheck.necvr.ne.gov/.

--Change of address. If a registered voter has moved within a county (out of their former precinct) and not updated their registration, the person should go to the polling place associated with their current residence. The person will be required to vote a provisional ballot.

--Be prepared. Before going to the polls, the voter should become informed about the candidates and issues on the ballot. Sample ballots are printed in newspapers and posted on county websites. Mark and take the sample ballot with you to the polling place.

--Conduct at the polls. To maintain proper decorum at the polls, it is requested that people turn off their cell phones.

--Campaigning prohibited. Campaign items such as buttons, stickers and T-shirts are not allowed in a polling place. It is illegal to campaign within 200 feet of a polling site.

--Voter identification. Proper identification will be required at the polling place of people who are newly registered by mail and did not provide identification. These people will be required to provide identification showing their current residence. Identification at the polling place is not required of other voters.

Polls are open on Election Day from 8 a.m. CDT (7 a.m. MDT) to 8 p.m. CDT (7 p.m. MDT).

Recipe of the Week

Ginger-Crust_Pumpkin_Swirl_Cheesecake

Cream Cheese Pumpkin Bars

What You Need:

25 NABISCO Ginger Snaps, finely crushed (about 1-1/2 cups)
1/2 cup  finely chopped PLANTERS Pecans
1/4 cup butter, melted
4 pkg.  (8 oz. each) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
1 cup sugar, divided
1 tsp.  vanilla
4 eggs
1 cup  canned pumpkin
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp.  ground nutmeg
Dash ground cloves

Make It

HEAT oven to 325°F

MIX crumbs, nuts and butter; press onto bottom of 13x9-inch pan.

BEAT cream cheese, 3/4 cup sugar and vanilla with mixer until well blended. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating after each just until blended. Remove 1-1/2 cups batter. Stir remaining sugar, pumpkin and spices into remaining batter.

SPOON half the pumpkin batter into crust; top with spoonfuls of half the plain batter. Repeat layers; swirl with knife.

BAKE 45 min. or until center is almost set. Cool completely. Refrigerate 4 hours.

Sweets can add enjoyment to a balanced diet, but remember to keep tabs on portions.
Make it Easy
Line pan with foil, with ends of foil extending over sides. Use foil handles to lift chilled cheesecake from pan before cutting to serve.
How to Prepare Cheesecake in Springform Pan
To bake cheesecake in 9-inch springform pan instead, prepare as directed increasing the bake time to 55 min. to 1 hour 5 min or until center is almost set.

The Grand Prize will be a $10,000 grant to help animals, but we're also adding some exciting new prizes for shelters to try for. There will be Dark Horse Prize winners — rescue organizations that have never won a grant in ANY of our Challenges — and we will also offer a unique opportunity for voters to share their beloved rescue pets in the Shelter Fan Photo Contest to win a grant for their favorite rescue group!

Mid America Motorplex

FAST FRIDAY OPEN LAPPING, FRIDAY NIGHT STREET RACES WITH HEADS UP STREET WARS AND 330 JUNIOR THUNDER, HOT WHEELZ SERIES RACE #6, JUNIOR DRAG RACING LEAGUE RACE #16, HAUNTED TOWER OF DOOM

FRIDAY, OCT 29TH  - is another Fast Friday at Mid-America Motorplex.   Anyone with road course experience can bring their car to race at MAM’s 2.23 mile road course from 9 am to 6 pm at a reasonable charge, or race just a half day if they so choose.

FRIDAY, OCT 29TH – is Friday Night Street Racing at Rolling Thunder Drag Strip.  Participants can “Run What You Brung” on the drag strip as many times as they would like.  Gates open at 6 pm and racing runs from 7 pm till midnight.  Admission for spectators is $10 with children 12 & under free.  Also included in the evening program is our Heads Up Street Warz #7 and Junior 33 Thunder #7. The Haunted Tower of Doom will be open to celebrate the Halloween holiday. Admission is free with paid admission to the track.

SATURDAY, OCT 30th – is the 16th race in our Junior Drag Racing League Series along with NAPA Hot Wheelz mas/rdk race #6.  Gates open for the juniors at 10 am and 2 pm for the Hot Wheelz racers. The Hot Wheelz Series includes racing in electronics, non-electronics, trophy street, trophy slick, and test/tunes.  Spectators are $10 with children 12 and under free. Haunted Tower of Doom will be open for hauntingly good time! Admission is free with paid admission to the track.

MAM is located next to Interstate I-29 in Iowa, approximately 20 minutes from downtown Omaha, NE. When driving south from the Omaha metro area, take I-29 to the Glenwood exit (exit #35), and turn right (west). At the stop sign, turn left (south) onto 190th Street, go about 1 mile to Jesup Ave. and turn left, the track will be on your left.

The Lofte

Production dates for “Christmas at Leon’s: are Dec 3-5, 10-12, and 16-19.  The theater is located near Manley, Nebraska near the intersection of Hwy 50 and Hwy 1.

“Unnecessary Farce” Is a Necessary Experience

Written in 2002, the script is modern and very witty.  The story takes place in two adjoining hotel rooms.  In one room, two rookie cops prepare to bust their town’s mayor for embezzlement.  With the help of a love-starved woman accountant and a video camera, they set-up a sting in the adjoining room.  However, their simple plan soon goes haywire.  The accountant keeps taking off her clothes.  The mayor’s security guard is overly protective.  A mysterious Scottish hitman appears, but is brogue is so thick no one can understand his instructions.

The production is directed by Kevin Colbert of Weeping Water.  The colorful ensemble cast includes Kyle Lorenz of Lincoln, Anne Pope of Eagle, Anna Strobel and Ken Patry of Omaha, Kevin and Dawn Holdorf of Manley and Joshua Smith of La Vista.

Performance dates are October 15-17, 22-24 and 28-31.   Curtain times are 7:30pm on Thursday-Saturday and 2pm matinees on Sundays.  General admission tickets are $16.  Reservations can be made by calling the Lofte ticket office at (402) 234-2553.

Free Veterans Day Salute at  the Lofte 

Manley, NE [October 19, 2010]- The Lofte Community Theatre near Manley announces that for the fourth consecutive year, it will hold a free public concert in honor of Veterans Day.  On Sunday, November 7th at 2pm, the United States Air Force’s Heartland of America Band group, The Noteables will take the stage.

With their extensive repertoire of specially tailored standards, energetic favorites and Big Band classics, highlighted by instrumental and vocal soloists, The Noteables is sure to please audiences of any age. The seventeen-member group has appeared in concert and on national television with Bob Hope, jazz trumpeter Bobby Shew, composer/arranger Frank Mantooth, former Tonight Show band leader Doc Severinsen, pop singer Lee Greenwood and trombonist Wycliffe Gordon. 

The Noteables honorably represent more than 325,000 Air Force professionals around the world who diligently watch over the skies protecting and defending all those who cherish freedom. We hope you afford us the opportunity to share the messages of excellence, sacrifice, courage and commitment of our brave men and women...the deployed Airmen of the United States Air Force.
