Pat Schliefert hands over the keys of the Louisville Senior Center to the new Manager, Evelyn Hans.  Pat has announced her retirement this month after 15 years at the Senior Center. Evelyn comes to the position with a degree in nursing home administration and 15 years of previous experience working as an activities director in long term care. Her first priority is to increase awareness of what the Louisville Senior Center has to offer and increase attendance. The center is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00am -2:00 pm and meals are delivered by ENOA (Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging) for a minimal fee. Also, there is the availability to have in-home delivery of these meals. Anyone interested in eating in or dining at home must call one day in advance to make arrangements. The Center is located at 423 Elm and the telephone number is 402-234-2120. It’s a fun place for seniors to play cards or bingo or do crafts. Evelyn is also lining up entertainment as well guest speakers. Events will be posted in local venues. But for now, pot luck lunches will be return on the first Monday of the month from 12:00-1:00 - they are free if you bring a covered dish or the cost is $4. And the biscuits and gravy breakfast will continue on the last Saturday of each month. Everyone - of  any age - is invited to partake in these two special meal events. The next covered dish/potluck lunch will be on Monday March 4th with corned beef and cabbage as the main dish.

Irish Music Concert

Greenblatt & Seay's Schoolhouse Performance Series features a concert of Irish music on Sunday, March 10, at 2:30 PM.   Greenblatt & Seay & Friends will be singing and playing a variety of instruments, including fiddle, pennywhistle, guitar, hammered dulcimer, and banjo. Traditional Irish tunes will be featured, along with some Greenblatt & Seay originals inspired by the great Irish traditions.

Greenblatt & Seay have been playing and singing together since the night they met, decades ago.  Their performance on March 10 will include the championship fiddling styles of Deborah Greenblatt, and the fancy whistle-playing of David Seay.

The concert will be downstairs, and  followed by light refreshments, and a chance to chat and even jam with the performers.  Avoca is in southern Cass County, Nebraska, on the 13 C Spur,  one mile south of Highway 34.
Admission is $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students and senior citizens, and $1.00 for children. Seating is limited. For more information, write to  Greenblatt & Seay, The Old Schoolhouse, P.O. Select Tax Forms Available

The IRS has notified libraries that distribution of federal tax forms will be delayed this year due to late-breaking tax law changes. The Nebraska Department of Revenue stopped sending tax forms to libraries several years ago. To date, the library has received the following federal tax forms, which can be picked up free of charge at the library.

  • Form 1040EZ and instruction booklet
  • Schedule B
  • Schedule EIC

Library staff can help you print tax forms from either the IRS or the Nebraska Department of Revenue web pages, but there will be a 10 cents per page charge for any forms printed. Staff can help you find specific forms, but staff can't offer any tax advice regarding which forms you may need.
