What Haunts Old Homeowners?

Problems may not manifest immediately, but they lurk out there and can arise at any time. In Plattsmouth, 50% of the homes are at least 50 years old, prompting the Plattsmouth Conservancy to put together a series of classes designed to help navigate the realm of choosing and maintaining an older home, whether it’s midcentury modern, Craftsman bungalow or Victorian.

The most important part of any home improvement or DIY project is preparation and choosing the right materials out of the wide variety available can be daunting. Please join us and have your fears laid to rest!

The next class, on Tuesday, May 7th, will be held in the lower level of the Plattsmouth Library from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The topic Hardware, will be presented by Bill Astley, a homeowner who fearlessly tackles DIY projects, most recently expanding his kitchen while adding a family room onto his home, while building a second outbuilding. Bill and Jerry Higgins of Higgins Hardware will answer questions immediately afterward.

Now that Spring has released us (and our gardens) from the winter's chill, we are preparing for our Plattsmouth (NE) Garden Club's biennual Garden Walk. There will be 5 or 6 beautiful home gardens on this year's walk, which will take place in town.
Tickets will be $5 per person per tour and can be purchased at any home on the walk. Addresses and additional information on each garden will be published within the next couple of weeks.
I can assure you there is a wonderful variety offered this year, from charming cottage gardens to a back yard oasis, to a large shaded acreage, some with water features. Our Veterans Memorial Garden will also be on the walk, which is located at Garfield Park in Plattsmouth, NE.
Garden related vendors will be set up at each garden, and there will also be a Plant Sale.
Proceeds from this event help to pay for the publicity, and also go back into our local community projects. Sponsors are accepted if they coordinate prior to May 21st.
Anyone is welcome to tour these gardens. Bring a friend, neighbor, parent, child or anyone who has a love for nature's beauty!
And please feel free to share and pass this invitation along to others who may be interested, thank you!
