This time of year it is about love, family, thanksgiving, new beginings, and traditions.

Growing up we had many many traditions.  One of them I remember and miss so much. This tradition was one that that dated back to 1934.

In Lykens, Pennsylvania there was a family that decorated their trucks with Christmas decorations.  Now they weren't just any ordinary decorations.  The first truck had Santa coming out of a chimney.  In the back of the truck there were elves.  Those elves were throwing the infamous Popcorn Balls.  You heard the Gene Autry's song, "Here comes Santa Claus" playing loudly so you knew to hurry to grab your coat and hat and head outside.

In the 1950's a second truck was added to the yearly tradition, Santa's sleigh with his reindeer.  You could hear "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" playing as it approched and you could even see Rudolph's red nose.

Not long after that, church memebers wanted to also add another display to the procession.  They created a scale model of a church which had the words, "Keep CHRIST in CHRISTMAS" on both sides of the display.  You can also hear an instrumental version of "Silent Night" being played.

The part that made this so special to me, was the fact that my mom, dad, sister and I followed behind the procession.  Each year he would decorate his vehicle (inside and out) with a flashing blue light on the top, to bring up the rear.  We would also have our Santa Clause hats, or Elf hats and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas as we drove by.

This procession traveled through many of the communities in the area.  It was a tradition that was passed down through many generations and still continues today.

They even make a special midnight run and you can faintly hear "Silent Night" being played from the church.

If you would like to learn more about this Christmas Eve Parade you can visit their website:  http://www.lykenspa.com/santa.htm

Unfortunatly I am unable to be part of this great tradition as I now live in Nebraska, but I can pass it unto you, my readers.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and remind you what this time of year is really about.
