Red Cross blood donations to offset seasonal decline

LINCOLN, Neb. (July 1, 2015) — The American Red Cross urges eligible donors to help offset a seasonal decline in donations and prevent a shortage this summer by giving blood.

During June, July and August, there are about two fewer donors than needed at each Red Cross blood drive. This can add up to more than 100,000 fewer donations during the summer. Many schools that host blood drives are out of session, and vacation schedules can make regular donors less available – both contributing to the seasonal decline.

Donors of all blood types – especially those with types AB, O negative, A negative and B negative – are needed to help ensure blood products are available to hospital patients this summer. Type AB donors have the universal plasma type, which can be given to patients of all blood types. Plasma helps maintain blood pressure and supplies critical proteins for clotting immunity. It is often needed for burn, trauma and cancer patients.

To make an appointment to give blood, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

‘Godspell’ Brings Gospel to Life on Lofte Stage

Manley, NE [July 6, 2015] - The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley announces its 2015 summer musical “Godspell” will open on Friday, July 17.  Written by Michael Tebelak and music by Stephen Schwartz (composer of ‘Pippin’ and ‘Wicked’) “Godspell" is the fun, modern retelling of the New Testament parables from the Gospel of Matthew.  Young men and women forsake their jobs and take up the mantle of Jesus Christ to become His disciples.  Through song and dance, they spread Christ’s message of love and tolerance as they move closer to his betrayal at the hands of Judas.

When the Lofte first opened its doors in 1977, it did so with a group of young people who produced “Godspell.”  Kevin Colbert of Weeping Water played the part of Jesus.  Now, thirty-nine years later, Mr. Colbert is the Lofte’s Artistic Director and leading another group of talented young actors to bring this timeless story to life.  Performed on a large set, styled to resemble a warehouse, a live orchestra will accompany the actors and even provide some of the background vocals.

Josh Parker of Bellevue plays the lead role of Jesus.  John the Baptist/Judas is played by Ross Mumford of Lincoln.  The rest of the cast includes Catherine Bobst and Wade Mumford of Lincoln, Jessie Kellerman of Bellevue, Matt Bailey of Springfield, Ellie Kroeger of Omaha, Piper Monson of Brock, Aaron Spracklin of Elmwood and Noelle Bohaty of Columbus, Ohio.

Production dates for the play are July 17-19, 23-26, 31 and August 1, 2.  Curtain times are 7:30pm Thursday-Saturday.  All Sundays are 2pm matinees.  Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling the Lofte box office at (402) 234-2553 or by visiting the Lofte’s website www.Lofte.com.
