Cass county NE

Effective May 11, 2020 Cass County Buildings will re-open to the public, access may be limited to each individual Office and or Building we are asking that you contact offices directly prior to arriving for further details.

For the safety of everyone we are asking that you limit the number of persons entering all county buildings to only those needed to directly complete your business.  We cannot ensure that the 6-foot rule will be accommodated at all times- therefore we encourage everyone to continue to use the recommended face masks while conducting business.

Access to the Courthouse will be through the handicapped entrance on the west side of the Building; persons entering will have temperatures taken with a no-contact infrared thermometer and may be asked routine pandemic wellness questions prior to entry.

Cass County will continue to follow public health guidance and regulations from local health districts, DHMs and the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  Social distancing for employees and the public will continue; the 6-foot rule and limitations on crowd size, as directed by the CDC, State of Nebraska, or local public health departments will continue to be enforced.  Revisions will be made according.

We recognize this will be a challenge, the public may still contact offices directly by telephone or email.  All offices remain staffed and available to assist tax payers.

NOTICE

Although some county offices are re-opening to the public, the Cass County Assessor’s Office will remain closed for public access until further notice.  Please continue using the silver drop box on the west side of the courthouse for Personal Property Returns and Homestead Exemption Applications.  This will continue to be checked daily and forms will be filed in our office when received.  Forms can also be mailed directly to the Assessor’s Office at 145 N 4th St, Plattsmouth, NE  68048. If you have any questions please call our office at 402-296-9310.  If needed, you may leave a message and staff will return your call.  Office hours are M-F, 8-12pm and 1-5pm.  We appreciate your understanding during this time.

PCS Superintendent Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update - May 8, 2020

Parents/Guardians/Patrons,

Good evening. We are drawing to a close with National Teacher Appreciation Week. If you have not already done it, please thank all of our education professionals for their service to our children and families! They have been working diligently to maintain continuity of learning for our students in very uncertain times.

There have been many directives and memorandums, over the last several weeks. Links are included below that might be of interest to you. Given that information might be updated frequently, links can be used to access the most current information from multiple sources.

State of Nebraska (Governor Pete Ricketts)

https://governor.nebraska.gov/

Nebraska Department of Education (Commissioner Dr. Matt Blomstedt)

https://www.education.ne.gov/

Sarpy/Cass Health Department (Director Sarah Schram)

https://www.sarpycasshealthdepartment.org/

Plattsmouth Community Schools (Dr. Richard E. Hasty)

https://www.pcsd.org/

Based on the consideration of information and directives from multiple sources, we will not have classes, activities, or events with students at our buildings until after at least May 31, 2020. We have also been informed by the health department that parades are considered extra-curricular activities that are not allowed until after at least May 31, 2020.

By early next week, building principals plan to send parents/guardians messages about procedures for checking in materials (laptops, textbooks, etc.) at the end of the year. We want to accomplish this in a manner that focuses on the safety of anyone that is dropping off materials and our staff members that would be receiving the materials. That being said, if you can answer “yes” to either of the two questions below this paragraph, please notify the building principals where your children attend school that you need to arrange an alternate time for dropping off materials.

  •        Have you been around someone who is quarantined?
  •        Do you have symptoms of cough, sore throat, or shortness of breath?

Additionally, I received information from the Sarpy/Cass Health Department that Governor Ricketts indicated organizations receiving government funds shall have their polling locations open on Tue., May 12, 2020. The PCS administration center is a polling location. Since the administration center Board room will be open as a polling site and staffed by individuals working for the election office, we will not be open for any PCS business in the building on that day. If you have business to conduct at the administration center, please do so before or after May 12, 2020. We also have a mail slot on the building with an expanded dropbox, so you can drop off items anytime, without entering the administration center. Thank you for understanding.

Sat., May 9 - An audio Graduation Broadcast is scheduled to go live at 10:00 AM. You can access it on the radio locally at 103.1 FM. You can also access it online at https://rivercountry.newschannelnebraska.com/b103-and-otoe-county-countrySimply click on Listen Live.

Fri., July 17 - Prom is scheduled for this evening. Contact prom sponsor Jaima Negrete with questions at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Sat., July 25 - A traditional, in-person ceremony in which students walk and receive their diplomas has been scheduled for this day. We will also need approval from local health officials for the in-person ceremony. We are hopeful that the weather will cooperate with us and the in-person ceremony can be held outside in our turf stadium.

Bond Construction Progress - We have a link on our website where you can access video showing the progress with bond construction on our campuses. We plan to have a new video each week. Check out the latest bond construction video of high school construction progress at https://www.pcsd.org/Page/3965.

The Plattsmouth Community Schools and OPAA! continue to provide Grab-N-Go breakfasts and lunches at no charge for any child in a household from birth to age 18 regardless of income. Meals are being distributed by the sidewalk near the front entrance of Plattsmouth Middle School at 1724 8th Ave. It is a drive-thru service each Monday from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. On Monday, May 4, we distributed 5460 meals to children!

In an effort to increase safety, we are implementing some procedures for handing out the food to families. If possible, when you drive up for your food, we would like to place your food in a trunk or an empty back seat. This will aid in maintaining a 6-foot distance between people. If there is not a trunk or empty back seat available, you might be asked to grab your food from a table. Then, the volunteers plan to wipe down the table before the next customer. Please be patient with our food service volunteers.

To help us get an accurate meal count, if you need food assistance, please complete the survey at this link (https://bit.ly/3a82V2r). The survey only needs to be completed one time per household. The survey does not need to be completed every week. If you are unable to complete the survey online, please call 402-296-3361 and provide the necessary information.

2020-2021 State Aid Certification is available from the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) at https://www.education.ne.gov/fos/state-aid/. PCS will have a decrease of $565,916 in State Aid for 2020-2021. When we figure in the prior year (2018-2019) correction of +$128,469 that we received in 2019-2020, the difference between 2019-2020 State Aid and 2020-2021 State Aid is even greater. Our principals and I are discussing additional ways to reduce expenditures, including possibly not filling additional positions that are open due to resignations, while maintaining high-quality programs for our students.

The good news is that in 2020-2021 we estimate the second year of approximately 100 students entering kindergarten, as opposed to lower numbers from the immediately preceding years that are evident in our 1st grade (78 students), 2nd grade (88 students), 3rd, grade (93 students) and 4th grade (93 students). If you have suggestions for how our district might be more efficient with resources and address the decrease in State Aid, please submit your ideas in the Business Services/Budget section under District Topics on our Let’s Talk site at https://bit.ly/2Y9ua9N.
