Gale reminds citizens of deadlines for November election
LINCOLN – Secretary of State John Gale outlined deadlines regarding voter registration and early voting for the Nov. 2 Nebraska general election.
Early voting for the election starts Sept. 27 by mail or in person at county election offices.
Any registered voter can cast an early-voting ballot.
Gale listed the following deadlines for the November election:
--In-person voter registration at county election offices ends at 6 p.m. Oct. 22. This includes registration changes such as updating an address.
--Registered voters can make requests until 4 p.m. Oct. 27 for early-voting ballots to be mailed. Nov. 1 is the deadline for in-person early voting at county election offices. The close of polls on Nov. 2 is the deadline for the return of early-voting ballots, including ballots returned by mail.
Gale urged eligible Nebraskans who aren’t registered voters to take the time to register.
“Voting in Nebraska is a very user-friendly process,” he said. “All you have to do is take the time to study a sample ballot and vote.
“It’s as easy as buying a cup of coffee at your neighborhood coffee shop.”
Gale reminded people to update their voter registration if they have moved within a county or submit a new registration if they have moved from one county to another.
People with questions can call their county election office or the Secretary of State’s Office toll free at (888) 727-0007.

“Unnecessary Farce” Is a Necessary Experience
Manley, NE [September 30, 2010]- On October 15, the Lofte Community Theatre in Manley will continue its tradition of fast-paced comedy productions by opening Paul Slade’s hilarious “Unnecessary Farce.”
Written in 2002, the script is modern and very witty. The story takes place in two adjoining hotel rooms. In one room, two rookie cops prepare to bust their town’s mayor for embezzlement. With the help of a love-starved woman accountant and a video camera, they set-up a sting in the adjoining room. However, their simple plan soon goes haywire. The accountant keeps taking off her clothes. The mayor’s security guard is overly protective. A mysterious Scottish hitman appears, but is brogue is so thick no one can understand his instructions.
The production is directed by Kevin Colbert of Weeping Water. The colorful ensemble cast includes Kyle Lorenz of Lincoln, Anne Pope of Eagle, Anna Strobel and Ken Patry of Omaha, Kevin and Dawn Holdorf of Manley and Joshua Smith of La Vista.
Performance dates are October 15-17, 22-24 and 28-31. Curtain times are 7:30pm on Thursday-Saturday and 2pm matinees on Sundays. General admission tickets are $16. Reservations can be made by calling the Lofte ticket office at (402) 234-2553.

A SHORT STORY
Have you noticed that all of us seem to be in a hurry all the time? I’m not exactly sure where we’re all going or if we even know, but we sure are in a hurry all the time, aren’t we? Maybe we’re all hurrying to make a living. But don’t you just love it when you get to slow down a little and make a life?
Some friends and I were talking the other day about our favorite foods. And one friend said, “My favorite food is a slow-cooked pot roast. Now I don’t mean one of those pot roasts that’s cooked in a hurry so it can be served fast. I mean a pot roast that slow cooks over low heat, basting in its own gravy. There’s just something about slow-cooking that makes a pot roast taste great.”
There’s just something about slow-cooking life that makes it taste great, too, don’t you think? So turn down your oven, slow down your pace, and make a pot roast life, not just a served-fast living. And listen to life today so you can make a positive life, not just a living, in a negative world.
