March of Dimes

March of Dimes welcomes Sarah Michelle Gellar as the new national Sounds of Pertussis®Campaign Ambassador

Emmy® Award-winning actress Sarah Michelle Gellar has joined the March of Dimes and Sanofi Pasteur on the Sounds of Pertussis®Campaign. As the mother of two young children, the youngest having arrived in September 2012, Gellar wants to help raise awareness about the potential dangers of pertussis, also known as whooping cough, and the importance of adult tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination.

"No matter how busy my career gets, my family and their health are always my number one priority," said Gellar. "That's why I'm urging adults to get vaccinated against pertussis to help protect themselves and to help stop the spread of the disease to infants."

Gellar's efforts come at a time when awareness is needed. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), America is experiencing one of the largest outbreaks of reported pertussis cases in approximately 50 years with more than 41,000 reported cases and 18 deaths in 2012.1,2

As the new National Sounds of Pertussis Campaign Ambassador, Gellar is helping to educate parents, grandparents, caregivers and others in close contact with infants about the importance of getting vaccinated with an adult Tdap vaccine. Gellar is also encouraging parents to use the Campaign's new Facebook application — the Breathing Room — that allows parents to send a brief message to family and friends in their Facebook network, asking them to make the pledge to be vaccinated against pertussis.

FreecycleMurrayNE(R) hopes to encourage everyone to recycle rather than sending items to landfills.

You might have upgraded your appliances,  furniture or just cleaned out your craft supplies.  OFFER them to someone else, instead of throwing them in the trash.

Have you recently completed a building project and and now have leftover lumber, drywall, etc.  Hey, someone might need that to repair something.

In searching through your cabinets, have you come across that super, spectacular bagel-maker that you've only used once?  Now it's just sitting there taking up valuable space on your shelf.  So get rid of it already!  Oh, and what about mint that you planted and it's now outgrowing its' pot?  Share it with someone else who also has a green thumb.

REMEMBER...NEVER is money to be involved and it's FREE to sign-up!

The Murray group is also for surrounding areas!

Special Summer Reading Program for Teens!

This summer, the library will be offering a reading program designed just for teens called "Beneath The Surface!" The program will kick off on Tuesday, June 4, from 1:00 to 8:00 pm. Stop by the library to register and pick up the "Read" Bingo cards for the program. There are twelve activities on each card, and everyone will receive "Book Bucks" for each "Read" Bingo card completed and turned in at the library.

The "Book Bucks" can be redeemed for prizes at the end of the Summer Reading Program on Saturday, June 29, at 2:00 pm, at the library. The prize table will be set up in the auditorium from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm that day! The biggest prize is to have a pizza party with the "T.R.I.P." paranormal investigation team that evening. This is the chance to see their equipment, meet the team, and get an insider scoop on their experiences.

The program is FREE and open to anyone ages 13-18. If you have any questions, please call Kirsten, 402-296-4154, extension 21.
