COFFEE HOUSE ON THE PLAZA
Musical Event to Benefit American Cancer Society
For the past twenty years, on the first Saturday of February, Nebraska musician and entertainer Terry Little has hosted his Coffee House, an evening of folk music and fun featuring the talents of local and regional artists.
Usually held at St. John’s School gym in Plattsmouth, Little is bringing his band of musicians to the downtown Entertainment Plaza, located at 4th & Main Streets, on Saturday, August 24, beginning at 7:00 pm.
Weather permitting and with a little help from his friends, songs from the various generations and genres will fill the summer night air for three hours.
Among the scheduled performers are 37 Years (Tyler and Sandy Smith), Tom Lucas, Tom & Toni Allen, John Kennedy, Diana Connolly, Jim & Pat Joyner, Scott Sloan, and Little’s group the Old Krusty Minstrels, featuring Pat Carroll, Larry Jensen, Ron Kolb, and Jon Ulrich. Several “surprise guest” appearances are planned.
Besides serving as MC and introducing the various acts during the night, Little will be offering both cover and original tunes between sets, including “Main Street”, “Destination Plattsmouth” and “Bovine Blues”, a song he wrote about the infamous Plattsmouth Ninja Cow.
There is no charge to attend, but freewill donations will benefit the American Cancer Society. Little’s daughter, Serena Chester, who has non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, will be running in the October 13 Chicago Marathon in memory of the late Ruth Wassinger. This will be Chester’s first full marathon and she is running as part of the American Cancer Society DetermiNation team. Many cancer survivors and others who are presently battling this crippling disease will be in attendance at the Coffee House.
Sponsored by the Plattsmouth Main Street Association, chairs will be set-up for the event but bringing lawn chairs is permissible. Refreshments and drinks will be available.
As part of the atmosphere, attendees are invited to dress in coffee house style (beatnik, hippie, surfer, bell bottoms, beads, Roman sandals, etc.).
