PLATTSMOUTH HARVEST FESTIVAL LOGO CONTEST
It's been 5 years since the Korn Klub held a contest and adopted the present cornucopia logo for the Plattsmouth Harvest Festival. In a effort to solicit interest and promote participation from the community, the organization is sponsoring a contest to create a new logo for use with its programs, stationery, flyers, banners, advertising and promotional material for the annual festival beginning in 2016. This year's festival is set for September 10-13, 2015.
The competition is open to all residents of Cass County and will run from August 7 thru September 7.
The submission must be on 8-1/2 X 11 inch white paper. It can be hand drawn or computer generated. Submission must be an original (no copyrighted material) and must contain an ear of corn. Entrant’s name, address and phone number should be attached to the back of the submission.
Entries may be given to a Korn Klub Officer or mailed directly to P.O. Box 112, Plattsmouth, NE 68048.
Entries will be on display at 426 Main during the Harvest Festival. Voting will take place at same location. Ballots will be available. One vote per person (name and address required on ballot for residency verification).
Voting cut-off is 9PM, Saturday, September 12. Votes will be collected and tallied. Winner will be announced at the October Korn Klub meeting. Use of winning entry will be at the discretion of the Korn Klub.

Red Cross urges donors of all blood types to roll up a sleeve to give
A diverse blood supply is a key component to community preparedness
LINCOLN, Neb. — During National Preparedness Month, the American Red Cross urges eligible donors to give blood to help ensure a stable and diverse blood supply is available during emergencies of all types.
A diverse blood supply is important to ensuring the needs of all patients are met. Red blood cells carry markers that determine one’s blood type, and some blood types are unique to certain racial and ethnic groups. Because blood from donors of the same ethnic background as the recipient is less likely to cause complications, the Red Cross must maintain a diverse blood supply to meet these diverse patient needs.
Whether blood is needed for a chronic condition such as sickle cell disease, a surgical procedure or a large-scale emergency, it’s the blood already on the shelves that helps save lives. The Red Cross encourages donors of all types to give blood, and those with types AB, O negative, A negative and B negative are especially needed.
To make an appointment to give blood, download the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
