The caucus and primary voting in Cass County

The Democratic Caucus is Saturday, March 5th at the Expo Building at the Cass County Fairgrounds from 10:00 to 12:00.

The Primary is Tuesday, May 10th.

The Western Feeders 4-H Club

The Western Feeders 4-H Club had their monthly meeting on February 24th, 2016, 7:00pm at the Alvo Fire Barn. The meeting was called to order by Club President, Justin Hennessy. The Roll was called and the Secretary, Mickayla Larsen, read the minutes from the last meeting which were approved. All members of the club took a test to help them remember the 4-H pledge. The Treasurer, Trevor Brown, reported that there was approximately $1200.00 in club’s bank account. The News Reporter, Olivia Cupp-Whiteman said that she sent her news report from the last meeting to the Waverly and Plattsmouth newspapers/newsletters. The only Old Business was to remind all of the members and assistant leaders that they needed to be enrolled online by March 1, 2016. For New Business, canned food was collected from the members and parents for the Eagle Food Pantry- which was their second community service project. The pantry needs personal care products such as toothpaste, toilet paper and soap. The leaders reminded the students that anyone interested in the 4-H Speech Contest should enter to be held on March 28, 2016. It was also noted that this was on Easter Weekend. The meeting was adjourned and everyone had purple milkshakes and the club members iced sugar cookies.

The MURRAY FREEDOM FESTIVAL Board of Directors wishes to THANK all the patrons who enjoyed our pancake breakfast last Sunday. It was a HUGE success!

Our generous volunteers have again demonstrated that it takes a COMMUNITY of FRIENDS WORKING TOGETHER to make things happen.

Thanks to those who donated supplies and equipment, Principal Eric Dennis, for the use of the school and to the 'Pancake King', Wes Redden for those tasty, fluffy pancakes! The Nebraska Community Website editors did a great job of advertising for us, as did Steve Warga with the Cassgram. We had guests from many neighboring communities - even from as far away as Michigan!

Cranes are Here!

Sandhill crane viewing attracts tens of thousands of visitors to Central Nebraska. The cranes and the visitors show up around Valentine's Day. The families of cranes may be spotted every day and night until they fly north on a warm thermal at the end of March.
