The Plattsmouth Public Library Board of Directors will meet January 3, 2008 in the library auditorium at 4:00pm.

The Plattsmouth Public Library Adult Book Club will meet January 5, 2008 at the library at 10:00am.
  This club is has become very popular in recent months with an average attendance of 8-10 members.  So come in for free coffee and great discussions about great books!

The Plattsmouth Public Library Bookworms for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders will meet January 12, 2008 in the auditorium at 10:30am.  Please call Kirsten at 296-4154 for more information about this fun program.

The Plattsmouth Public Library would like to announce that their Xboxes will open in the mornings beginning December 21, 2007 until January 4, 2008 for the kids to use during Winter Break from School.

On January 5, 2008, Plattsmouth Public Library will open our door for our 2nd Clan Wars featuring the biggest game of the year: Halo 3.  The tournament will pit 4-man teams against each other in fierce electronic competition.  The program was spear-headed by the Youth Services Specialist Josh Smith and his newly created Gaming Council which includes Jesse Kosalka, Tyson Payton, J.D. Fabian, Mac Stine, Kevin Boyle, Colin Boyle, Stephen Himes, and Anthony Warner who have been hard at work promoting the tournament in the local schools.  Tyson Payton was quoted as saying, “It’s fun ‘cuz you can win money, and it’s fun owning people.”

The Clan Wars is one of our most anticipated programs of the year and we are hoping to see attendance from not only Plattsmouth, but many of the surrounding communities as well.  The Tournament will take place at the Library and begin at 10 am.  Participants are encouraged but not required to bring their own controllers.  Prizes will be awarded to the top four teams in the following increments: First prize is 4 $50 Visa Gift Card, Second Prize is 4 $25 Visa Gift Cards, Third prize is 4 $20 Visa Gift Cards, and Fourth Prize is 4 $15 Visa Gift Cards.  Registration is $40 per team and forms are available at the library at 401 Avenue A, Plattsmouth, NE, so sign up today!

The Plattsmouth Public Library would like to announce that they will be holding an Open Mike Night on Thursday, March 14, 2008 at 7:30 pm.  More details to be forth coming soon

One of the Library’s regular patrons, Mr. Edward Smalley of Plattsmouth (36) was struck by a truck equipped with a snowplow on Dec. 20 and lost both of his legs.  He was taken to Creighton Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.  The  Library Staff sends their best wishes for his recovery.

The Friends of the Plattsmouth Public Library will be sponsoring their popular monthly Soup Luncheons with the first one being on Thursday, January 10, 2008 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  Choose from homemade Chicken Tortellini or Chili for just $5.00 per person.  Your meal also includes bread, crackers, choice of desserts, and beverage.  Proceeds benefit the many children’s programs at the Library including the Summer Reading Program, Halloween Spooky Story Time, Holiday Party, and other monthly programs at the Library. 

Plattsmouth Community Schools are off school Friday, December 21, 2007 through Friday, January 4, 2008.

St. John the Baptist School is off school Thursday, December 20, 2007 thought January 3, 2008.

The City of Plattsmouth Recycling Drop Off is being held Saturday, January 5, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the City Street Department Shop located at 444 13th Avenue. They are accepting used appliances, auto and industrial batteries, and used oil.

Plattsmouth City of Council Member Ruth Wassinger is preparing for her second Boston Marathon in April, 2008. She qualified by running the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital Marathon in Memphis, TN and winning second place in the women’s age category of 55-59. 

The Strategic Air and Space Museum located on Interstate 80 at Exit 426, is sponsoring the Clayton Anderson Heartland Astronaut Exhibit through Sunday, January 6, 2007.  More information is available at their website:
