There are quite a few happenings coming up in Plattsmouth in the next few weeks, so I am going to try to get everything covered!

The Cass County Interagency Meeting is tomorrow, Thursday, January 8th starting at 11:30 a.m. This meeting features Jessie Williams, Project Associate for "Answers for Families" from the Center for Children and Family Law in Lincoln.  She will be talking about utilizing this resource for families and also information on the thousands of community agencies and organizations that offer resources to Nebraskans.  This topic is even more timely now due to the current economic situation.  These programs are always free and you are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch.  No registration is needed, the speaker starts at 12:00 p.m. at the Plattsmouth Early Childhood Center located on Main Street.  Please call LeeAnn Stander at 296-5250 if you have questions.

The Plattsmouth Soccer Club will be holding their second Spring Soccer Registration on January 11th, 2009 from 1:00 to 3:00 at the Methodist Church.  The registration forms can be found at their website, http://www.plattsmouthsoccer.org/ , and can be filled out prior to coming to the church.

Tax Time is here again and the Plattsmouth Early Childhood Center is offering a free Low Income Tax Clinic on Monday night, January 26, starting at 6:30 p.m. No registration is required and Legal Aid of Nebraska will be on hand to answer questions for this clinic.  What a great opportunity to get the correct information locally and for free!  Thanks to the PECC for sponsoring this clinic.

The Plattsmouth Community Center has a big weekend coming up as well.
Friday, January 23, they are having a free to enter chili contest from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Community Center.  So get out your aprons, biggest cooking pot, and best recipe to join in the fun!  There will be a tasting as well that evening for $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.  McKenna’s Blues, Booze, and BBQ will be offering a cash bar that evening as well.

Saturday, January 24, the Community Center is offering the launch of three new fitness programs which is very exciting!  Please call 296-5800 for more information on any of these cool events.   They also have a great website that is:

Looking ahead at the Community Center, they will be offering teen dances on the first Saturday of every month beginning with February 7.  These are for youth ages 10-15, and cost $5.00 per person, registration is required before 12:00 pm noon that day.  I think this is wonderful and as someone who was a teen here (back in the dark ages), I wish these type of events would have been offered then.  Congratulations to Beckie and the staff for putting together these great new events.

The Plattsmouth Chamber of Commerce annual awards banquet on Thursday, February 5, will have Coach Tom Osborne as the speaker.  This banquet will be at St. John’s school auditorium starting at 6:00 p.m.  This event is open to the general public and tickets are $15.00 per person or $120 for a corporate table of 8.  Please call the Chamber office at 296-6021 to purchase tickets!
